A World of Warcraft guide to safe and healthy eating

Variety = vitality.  Although not all players are required to eat or drink in WoW, you are in real life. Yes, even if you’re preparing for a battle with Kel'thuzad. On Azeroth, the main food groups are bread, fish, fungi, meat, cheese and fruit. On Earth, the main food groups are grains, vegetable, fruit, dairy and meat. Eating a balanced diet allows your body to supply nutrition and energy for maintaining body cells, tissues, and organs, and for supporting normal growth and development.

There’s a difference between raw and edible food. If it’s bloody, you probably shouldn’t eat it. WoW doesn’t allow you to get food poisoning from eating raw food like partially digested meat and squashed rabbit carcass. When food isn’t cooked to its correct temperature deadly pathogens and bacteria aren’t killed off. Even real foods like sunny-side up eggs or medium-rare steak have the possibility of harboring harmful bacteria that can make you sick. WoW’s two raw food types, meat and fish, are generally seen as poor quality foods, which should be cooked before being consumed. The only raw ingredient you can eat is raw fish – similar to eating tuna on sushi, which still has the possibility to make you sick if it wasn’t prepared correctly.

Getting drunk is not always the best idea.. Thankfully, in WoW, the drunken stupor from a trip to your local Thunder Bluff brewery only lasts around 15 minutes, or until you log out. In real life, unfortunately, you can get drunk symptoms similar to those in WoW, but you can also feel sick for several hours.  In reality, hangovers are the combined result of the brain getting dehydrated, shrinking slightly and moving away from the skull and the introduction of toxins in your body from alcohol.

Food doesn’t last forever. Food doesn’t “go bad” or “spoil” in WoW, but summoned foods will disappear after you are logged out of the game for an extended period of time. Similarly, you can make one sandwich at home and the container can get lost in the abyss of a dark, frigid compartment, only to be found two months later as a discolored mess slimier then a Murloc. If only refrigerators and cupboards disposed of foods for you when then went bad. Learn how long food can last in the fridge and when you should ditch your food with EDB’s easy guides.

There’s a difference between human food and pet food. Maybe you learned this when you were two years old and got yelled at for eating Dottie’s kibble. Humans shouldn’t eat pet food and pets shouldn’t eat human food. Some food consumable by your character won’t satisfy pets, especially when food ingredients are cooked, such as soup and stew items. Different kinds of pets need different food, too. Feeding your pet makes it happier and increases its effectiveness and loyalty.

You need time to digest. Didn’t you mother tell you to sit down and eat somewhere you won’t get attacked? Sit down and don’t engage in other activities while you’re eating. It will help you focus on your meal and avoid overeating. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register when it’s full, so focus on your food to get the right amount, restore your health and not feel sick afterward.

You can’t expect mobs to feed you forever.  Mobs, moms, same thing – right? Sometimes they drop foods or ingredients, which are delicious and you gladly eat, but sadly, you can’t rely on them forever. Everyone can learn how to cook and eat right; you don’t even need the cooking profession.  Learn how to eat healthy inexpensively and how to make healthy food choices.

Going 8 hours without eating really isn’t good. “When I used to play World of Warcraft in high school, I’d go eight hours without eating… or drinking. Raiding is serious business.”said an anonymous WoW player. Usually, a person can live for several days, or even a week without food, but why risk it? Just one day of dehydration and starvation can cause irritability, low morale, lethargy, physical weakness, poor judgment and confusion. EDB recommends these delicious foods any gamer would love.
